If I had to defend the idea that fiction is the primary and unshakable source of travel inspiration, I would say it offers a narrative immersion that creates a deep desire to explore.
However, it is important to recognize that this sequence is not universal nor the only mechanism of inspiration.
A tourist guide can very well be the starting point of a desire to travel, independently of any fictional work.
For some, the idea of visiting the Christmas markets of Alsace can arise while browsing a thematic guide, without any film or novel to initiate it.
The hierarchy of inspiration is often more flexible and conditional on the type of traveler than one might imagine.
