Here, we are clearly mixing two stories in assuming that a survey on holiday habits explains document verification. On one side, there's the story of the person planning their excursions and restaurants with joyful anticipation. But on the other, there's the person who has already been refused boarding due to an expired document, turning this verification into a major and often anxiety-inducing issue.
The survey, no matter how detailed in planning, does not capture Marc's visceral fear, who knows what it is to see his holidays collapse at the airport because of an invalid passport.
Without a specific question about past refusal experiences or fear of consequences, this information remains a nice anecdote without real explanatory power for this specific behavior.
The motivations behind document verification are much more related to avoiding a disaster than to general leisure organization.
For example, a traveler who has already had a visa problem understands the importance of meticulous checking, an anxiety that a typical holiday planner survey does not necessarily feel.
