Without wanting to get carried away, the distinction between simple descriptive observation and solid explanation of behaviors is crucial. Caution is the mother of safety to avoid hasty conclusions.

First, context: Here, in Spain, saying that 75% of people "check their papers in advance" in a survey is one thing, but the reality of the cita previa is another.
You can have the best intentions in the world to plan weeks ahead of a trip, but the local administrative regime often dictates the pace.
For example, you want to renew your passport, but the first appointment available at the police station is in two months, and that completely changes your planning.
The survey captures what people want to do, not always what they can do in this specific market.

Historical archives remind us that administrative necessity has always dictated a large part of these verifications, long before mass tourism became a reality. It is often observed that the validity of documents is linked to legal requirements that prevail, regardless of the destination chosen, a typical example being the rules of some countries requiring a passport validity of six months beyond the planned return date.

Drop the glossy hype and ask: does this really change the game for the average traveler or the cash flow of a company?
A survey on Google Forms, even with 78 responses, does not prove much about the real cause behind document verification.
It is only a descriptive observation, not a solid explanation of why 75% act this way, while for 25% vacation planning is done at the last minute.
For example, in Germany, checking documents is a bureaucratic necessity dictated by compliance, not just a vacation habit.
