This huge jump from 63 to 668 models on OpenRouter by December 2025 doesn't automatically mean a real improvement for anyone outside the developers. It's just more hype if those models don't actually offer better, more accessible tools or lower costs for my school. For example, if we get 10 times more models but the fees for using them stay too high for our tight school budget, what changes for my students? We need to prove this growth translates into tangible benefits, like reduced inference costs or genuinely superior performance that makes a difference in a classroom setting, not just a glossy statistic.
