The EU AI Act, Regulation 2024/1689, mandates risk management and transparency for AI developers.

Mistral AI raised 105 million euros in seed funding in June 2023, valuing the company at 0.24 billion euros.

The AI Act's regulatory framework influences how investors perceive and fund AI companies like Mistral AI.

Compliance with the AI Act may impact the financial landscape for European AI firms.

This regulation creates a new context for evaluating AI investments and growth potential.

Reasons

  • The AI Act provides legal clarity, standardizing copyright and technical documentation practices.
  • It transforms legal uncertainty into a clear risk management framework for international investors.
  • The regulation offers legal security for general-purpose AI models, attracting venture capital.
  • The Act's requirements are integrated and accepted by investors, as shown by funding rounds.
  • It demonstrates that regulatory constraints are compatible with securing significant funding.

How could the EU AI Act, passed in 2024, possibly inform Mistral AI's seed funding back in June 2023?
That doesn't make any sense; investors commit funds based on current realities, not regulations that haven't even happened yet.
My cousin got a loan for his pizzeria last year, and the bank looked at his current business plan, not some new tax law coming out next year.
We need to set the record straight on this timing.
