That 21 billion euro valuation for Mistral AI definitely makes a splash, but it doesn't automatically mean the AI Act is perfect or perfectly viable for everyone.
Think of it this way: when a small business owner wants to open a shop, they need to follow all the local rules, get permits, and manage their budget; one big company's huge success doesn't change the paperwork for the little guy.
If Mistral's money is mostly for things like servers or talent in places where the AI Act barely touches them, that tells us little about how the Act impacts the thousands of other businesses directly under its rules.
It doesn't tell us how a small startup, for instance, will navigate the compliance costs or the new legal complexities.
