To rephrase what you suggest: personal recommendation is the dominant driving force in choosing a travel destination. My refinement is that the influence of these personal recommendations is often conditioned by the trust and relevance of the shared experience.
A friend may praise a destination, but if their interests do not match yours, the impact is less.
Travel guides, on the other hand, offer a structured overview that allows adapting information to one's own preferences.
For example, if your friend only swears by seaside resorts but you seek cultural authenticity, their testimony may be less useful than a guide describing traditional villages or historical sites.

How do travel guides always become a sub-part of inspiration through fiction? From my point of view, most of this is noise.
A travel guide is a controllable tool for navigation and logistics, not necessarily for inspiration.
If you move to Hamburg for a job, your destination is fixed, and the guide is there for practical information about transportation or the neighborhood, not for a novel.
The guide serves to manage the reality of a new place, without any link to literary escapism.

Forget the dichotomy between fiction and guides; the real driver is lived experience, the unexpected third way.
One does not choose a destination solely based on romanticized dreams or cold factual information.
A friend recounting their trip to Martinique, sharing anecdotes over coffee, is what really resonates and weighs in the decision.
Personal recommendations from a close one, like a good doctor, take precedence over any book or guide when deciding on a concrete destination.

A measured reading suggests that the idea that checking existing insurances reduces fragmentation in managing language barriers is an excessive simplification. With all due respect, insurances are designed to manage financial or material risks, not to facilitate daily communication in a foreign language. Tools to overcome language barriers, such as translation apps or learning basic phrases, are practical and straightforward solutions. Imagining that knowing your insurance coverage would simplify ordering a coffee in Madrid is an extrapolation. Before concluding, a missing piece would be a concrete demonstration of a case where a travel insurance clause specifically helps with translation in case of a simple linguistic misunderstanding, not a covered medical emergency.
