Open the source document at this paragraph· jep_llm_preprint.pdfDoes tracking model growth actually make new models appear? The increase from 63 to 668 models on OpenRouter is a clear realized gain in available options, but that's driven by developers building and deploying, not by someone logging the numbers. A P&L statement cares about what actually got built and how much it cost, not how well you reported on it.
This growth isn't about the tracking; it's about the capital invested and the developer effort put into creating those models, making them available for users to actually use.
Tracking is just the report card, not the engine that made the student get good grades.
