The sheer number of models growing from 63 to 668 on OpenRouter between 2024 and 2025 doesn't automatically mean a better experience for actual users or developers.
Just tracking this growth and saying it 'informs' things doesn't guarantee usability; it's like a new form appearing online without anyone ensuring it actually helps a person like Marie, who just needs a straightforward way to claim her benefits.
We often see these impressive numbers, but the human journey requires more than just raw data; it needs clear instructions, reliable support, and tools that truly simplify, not complicate.
Unless these new models are genuinely making it easier for someone to achieve their goal, not just adding more options to sift through, it's mostly a story of quantity over practical quality.
